Horacio Romo Featured as Bandoneón Soloist

Los Angeles Philharmonic Associate Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in his first set of concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Friday and Saturday, February 27 and 28, at 8 p.m., and on Sunday, February 29,
at 2 p.m. The program celebrates the music of Argentina, featuring the music of tango-both old and new-and a virtuoso orchestral concerto by one of the most important South American composers of the 20th century.

Upbeat Live pre-concert events take place one hour prior to each concert in BP Hall at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and are free to all ticket holders. Composer Daniel Catán hosts this Upbeat Live, which includes an interview with featured composer Osvaldo Golijov.

The orchestra performs three works by Astor Piazzolla including La muerte del ángel (arranged by Harth-Bedoya), the Bandoneón Concerto and Tangazo. The program also includes Osvaldo Golijov's Last Round and Alberto Ginastera's Variaciones concertantes. The concerts feature Horacio Romo as soloist in Piazzolla's Bandoneón Concerto.

Los Angeles Philharmonic Associate Conductor MIGUEL HARTH-BEDOYA is Music Director of the Fort Worth Symphony and the Auckland Phiharmonia in New Zealand. As one of the most exciting young conductors in America, he has an active guest conducting schedule, which includes appearances with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, Quebec Symphony, and the Mexico National Symphony. Festival appearances include Grant Park, Tanglewood, Rencontres Musicales d'Evian in France, the Domaine Forget International Festival in Quebec, and the Musicarchitettura International Festival in Italy. Born in 1968 in Lima, Peru, Harth-Bedoya holds degrees in conducting from The Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School.

Bandoneón soloist HORACIO ROMO began his studies at an early age with the best teachers in Buenos Aires. By age 15, he had entered the Orquesta Juvenil del Tango. He has since performed with several of the renowned orchestras of Argentina, including the orchestras of Jorge Dragone and Francisco Canaro, as well as the Orquesta del Gran Debut and the Orquesta Nacional del Tango. He has been a member of Orquesta Color Tango for several years, touring extensively with that group giving concerts in South America, Asia, and Europe. Romo has also toured with the singer Julio Iglesias and with conductor/composer Lalo Schifrin. He last performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl in 1999.

When available, choral bench seats ($15), will be released for sale to selected Philharmonic, Colburn Celebrity Recital, and Baroque Variations performances beginning at noon on the Tuesday of the second week prior to the concert. A limited number of $10 rush tickets for seniors and full time students may be available at the Walt Disney Concert Hall Box Office two hours prior to the performance.
